The soil is sandy, perfect for dust baths and scratching around, and there are 800 acres of greenery and insects for them to eat. They also have a talented builder on staff, so they are guaranteed a fancy new coop. And my relatives appreciate the eggs far more than we do.

And then came the rain. I could hear it hitting the skylight and the windows and the roof. It got louder and sounded less like rain and more like angry children hurtling gravel at our house. I rolled over and thought it was over.

Wearing everything from regular swim trunks to Smurfs costumes, nrealy 300 people took a brief out-of-season jump into the surf at Ocean Beach Park on Sunday for the New London Penguin Plunge. One team, The Vermonsters, was made up almost entirely of such costumes. Brenda Cooper had the honor of wearing the sole penguin outfit.

You got a point every week you remembered to weigh yourself, and an extra point for every week that you lost weight.
